A Creative Urban Backyard Garden Space

City Garden Oasis  Photo Credit

Having a private garden in the city can be a challenge, with neighbors on all sides, and smaller yards to work with it, it can take a bit of creativity to turn that space into an inviting outdoor oasis. I'm always on the hunt for great garden space ideas and this is one of the most creative outdoor spaces I've seen. Owners Richard Prevost and Kevin Goodman have certainly risen to the challenge. Their backyard in Scarborough, Ontario is not only the perfect backyard oasis but is inspirational.

Townhouse yards aren't known for being large, the owners here have taken a long narrow back yard and transformed it into a crisp, inviting living extension of their home. Using patio stone they covered the area in and built in permanent raised garden beds.

Using the fence similar to how a wall would be used indoors, they have added catch the eye outdoor metal wall hangings. This creates a warm and inviting living space. Adding pots of plants amongst the raised garden beds fills the space in creating a lush green environment. With no grass to mow and using raised beds and potted plants they have also cut down on maintenance time, leaving more time to spend enjoying their oasis.

Creative use of lighting throughout the garden not only brightens up the space for evening but adds to the overall charm of the space. For more information check out the article at Canadian Gardening.
